How do you go about joining a guild?

it all depends on how the guild wants to invite people in. I would suggest grouping with a lot of people, when you find people you enjoy playing with and if they're in a guild ask them about their guilds invitation requirements.

Or you could always just start your own guild.

Expanding on what Aladdar has already said, if you do not find a guild to join you may wish to create one. It is a simple process, merely locate the Guild Registrar, pay the fee and customize the guild name/look.

But before that you need to get to the Hall of Heroes.

You do indeed need a Celestial Sigil from the Hall of Heroes to create a Guild, but there should also be a Sigil Trader in Lion's Arch (near the Guild Registrar) who sells them, for people who would rather buy them outright.

will guilds be reset when game is released? like will we have to recreate them?

There has been no firm word on this, but I would assume that a guild wipe is planned for release.

I was able to create a guild in the Old Aschalon section and thus didn't need a Celestial Sigil. I wonder if this will be possible on release and if so, why would anyone wait til after the starting section to create a guild?

Some people are not fit to create a guild, to put it frankly. I, for example, still can't decide whether I should be allowed to create a guild or not. After the recent BNW I think I shouldn't be a guildmaster.
